Description
Periodization has been bandied around so much that its essence has been lost. For Ian, the message is simply to have a plan. It is commonly taught or inferred that periodization means there is one or a number of set ways to plan training – Ian shows why this belief is inappropriate.
The term periodization is also commonly associated with a focus on one year or annual plan. There are many types of periodization and the starting point should be the review of the multi-year plan!
There are many additional concepts that Ian shares in this program that you may not have even thought of or been previously exposed to, and these include:
- Vertical integration versus horizontal integration.
- Concurrent training – does interference always need to occur?
- The implications of assessing the cause-effect relationship of training in the younger athlete.
- Volume and intensity with the older athlete.
- The age in male and female athletes – Ian recommends being very aware of their response to training to determine if you are on track.
- Case studies of annual periodization showing how Ian integrates training and why.
- The balancing of residual fatigue and neural dis-inhibition in the sequencing of training.
The program was shot from a live one day seminar given by Ian King on ‘Periodization and Integration’. The content covered is totally original and unique, drawing from un-paralled experiences in the real world of elite sport. Very rare footage on a vital topic in athletic preparation.
What others have said
The Periodisation and Integration Series is years ahead of anything I have seen in both theory and application! Ian presents from an integrated perspective, as he does with all his training, which allows the coach and athlete to understand the bigger picture and implement a superior training process.–Mitchell
