Description

THE CONTROL DRILLS BOOK

The intent of a specialization program is to give priority to a muscle group or body part, for a limited period of time.  Typically, a specialization program is done when a person realizes they have a lagging muscle group or body part.

During the last few decades Coach King has provided a number of these specialization program.

The Control Drills book contains such a program, as well as extensive information to help you understand, plan and train control drills– in a world that possesses a number of defaults that undermine the efficacy of most people’s attempts to develop joint control.

In the 1980s Coach King, through his involvement with physical therapists, was exposed to a significant gap in conventional strength training and that was the optimization of joint control and stability. Traditional strength training methods did not respect or address this. After the typical decade long development, Coach King introduced the term control drills, exercises and exercise names to address this specific training outcome, the concept and term ‘control & stability’ to recognize this unique strength training sub-quality, and models of periodization to integrate this proposed strength sub-quality into the periodization of strength.

The introduction of this ‘new component of strength training’ went through the usual ridicule, rejection and then acceptance as if it was always so. However, as with any ‘new trend’ that has market value, the concept gained many ‘new fathers’ (as in success has many fathers, failure is an orphan…) and as such the origin and intent of the concept was buried.

In the more than quarter of a century since, generations of strength athletes have been denied the power of this concept.  The incredible training effects of control exercises have been denied because the conditions to optimize them have not been respected and communicated.

If you want to gain the full benefits afforded by the person who brought this concept to mainstream strength training in the first place,  you will find massive value in this book.

The Control Drills book through its 147 pages, shares the following:

Wow!!! This is the BOOK I have been waiting for!! I have all the videos but having this reference and all the story in one place with the extras is awesome!!! Thank you so much! You have always been generous with your knowledge with me, and it is much appreciated and not taken lightly!-Joey Williams, USA

I can start with my own experience. Control drills for my shoulder, particularly external rotation, have really demonstrated the rebalancing that it can do for your muscles and certainly kept injury prevention and no doubt has helped my performance and that’s just one particular movement. And just looking around the gym or around the world I haven’t seen anyone actually do control drills with any sort of skill level so when a book talks about sort of so when a book talks about obstacles to optimizing, I can see clearly that there’s a lot of influences against the control drills. I occasionally i see a stretch done really well i don’t think I’ve ever seen a control drill done well outside the group that we’ve been in.-Don Cameron, AUS

What I really like the book is because I’ve been doing control drills for a while. Let’s talk about the exposure. I first got it through, I think, maybe Get Buffed! II. when it first came out and I was like okay there’s written instructions I should be able to do it. So, I did it and then I met Ian in person in Singapore and each time you came I was like ‘Oh I didn’t know what i was doing. I was doing it wrong.’ I just wasn’t doing it the way that was intended.

So, when Ian says in the book it’s one of the hardest things to teach it really got me thinking and there were two concepts that really struck out in the book – it was the qualitative and quantitative continuum. I think it really gives you an idea of why certain things don’t seem to work although they look simple from the outside; and then also, when it’s mentioned about like the primary secondary and tertiary classifications of how we do the control and stability. I could see how the decades of work and constant improvement have shown in the book.

So, I really enjoyed the book because after reading it makes sense and having the firsthand experience but not exactly knowing what’s happening that’s why everything clicked.-Vic Chan, Singapore

It’s really important for anyone is considering this book you to also check out Get Buffed! books and program design and all those things because all the components are what really makes it special. So many personal trainers or gym goers just jump right into maybe maximum strength because they’re so focused on load and how important it is to develop technique.-Tom Legath, USA

i believe there’s a saying good things come in twos i believe that’s a saying in english and um well we had to wait a little while but uh we had the dvd about control drills first and then later finally we have the second thing of the good things and that is the ebook so um really appreciate that and i have to say

Sometimes we forgot how many innovations that you have brought to the market of strength training. Reading this book reminded me again of that you were the first one that’s took out some exercises of the let’s say rehab situation that physiotherapists used and you brought it into the prevention of strength training, and then also created a different category of control and stability.  It’s huge that how much you changed the world of strength training and how much you changed the way we we train for the better, for having healthy joints and a healthy body.-Dave Cerpentier, Belgium

THE CONTROL DRILLS VIDEO

Following Ian’s release of his innovation, he called ‘controlled drills’, the world followed, often using different names instead of the one Ian originally assigned – control drills.

However, that is not the only way the imitation was diluted – the manner in which pre-training ‘activation’ work is being conducted post the release of Ian’s control drill concept in the late 1990s, is at best ineffective, and at worst – and in all too many cases – detrimental.

Ian introduced this concept to prevent and rehabilitate from injuries – NOT to cause them! Here’s your chance to get it right, to learn from the innovator themselves, the person who introduced the concept of pre-training ‘activation’ drills.

Ian uses and recommends that control drills be performed prior to each and every workout – the lower body drills before the lower body workout, the upper body drills before the upper body workout. They can be performed in higher volume in rehab/muscle balance situations, and in lower volume for maintenance of muscle balance and to ‘switch’ the muscles on.

This is a concise volume of totally unique and rare information. It has taken Ian decades to develop these techniques – but you can learn them in a fraction of that time because he has decided to share his unique teaching methods with you.

In 1999, Ian wrote, “These methods are so effective, they are sure to become mainstream.” They sure have, just that what the masses are doing (including ‘professionals’) is rarely what Ian intended! Here’s your chance to fulfil the potential of this concept and give yourself the best performance enhancement and injury prevention!

They cannot be effectively taught in text – you need to experience them, and even better, have a highly skilled KSI coach teach you in person!

What others have said

Ian, I had no idea these exercises could be so effective!  They seem so simple! I have used them regularly before my workouts and they have reduced my injuries, I have less pain in the joints, and I really feel I am using my muscles more effectively! They are amazing!—David
